disappointment

I think that disappointment is one of the worst emotions you can ever feel. It probably isn't even the right word to describe what I feel. What is the feeling....? When something bad has happened and you feel like it could have been prevented by one small choice. If you could only turn back the clock a little, this horrible thing wouldn't have happened. I am so sad. I had the feeling that maybe we shouldn't go out to eat. Stay home and save the money. Man, I wish we had. Now, not only did we pay money to go out to eat, but may have to pay money to have the Jeep fixed and get Justin a new bike. His bike was not cheap. And it's not like there is always extra money for these kind of accidents. Here's hoping there might be some insurance compensation. I don't feel very hopeful though. It's the kind of thing that feels like it kind of crushes you.
*written last night

OK. So here's the story. Britany (my sister who lives with us) suggested we go out to eat. I thought about it and was pretty worn out and didn't feel like cooking, so I said ok. Justin had ridden (or is it rode???) his bike to work yesterday and was working a little late. I said that we should all just get in the car and we'd see him on the way since we were going the same direction that he rides home. I thought, we'll just pull him over and throw his bike on the bike rack. Super! We caught him, and went out to enjoy a yummy Mexican dinner as a family. On the way home we are talking and laughing and having a good time. We pull in to the driveway (Justin was driving) and click our handy garage door opener to pull into the garage. CRUNCH!!!!! OH. CRAP!!! I felt like I just got punched in the gut. Here's the assessment of damages.

A chunk of rain gutter got busted off...about the width of some bicycle handlebars. <$30
The bike: A total loss. Confirmed by guy at bike shop. $800.00
The car: roof rack ripped out of roof of car and bent up pretty good. Some scratches, dents, etc. to the body of car= $3,182.23 + $500.00 for new Yakima roof rack
Bike Light: $99.00
Bike computer: $50.00
Pain and Suffering=$ (just kidding)

Thankfully insurance will come through for the heaviest of the damages, but it won't help with replacing his bike. May you all learn a lesson from us.

I remember my friend from college who was a competitive mt. bike rider decided that he was going to invent a warning beeper for this exact thing. I think him and his friend had both done this. I'm so sorry!

Oh man! I feel so bad for you guys. It's something I could see us doing. Thank goodness for insurance, and hopefully Justin will warm up to that great deal you found for the bike.

Sorry this happened to you guys. You are right, some of the worst feelings is wishing you could go back and change one small choice.

That stinks. I probably had a similar feeling a couple weeks ago I found a few cracks in my/now Kim's mountain bike frame. It is one of only 300 made and I have had it since high school. I feel for you guys. So did the frame get bent or just the fork? By the way it definitely not to be faulted on the date.
By the way this is Jeff
