Sisters & Bugs

Yesterday Kate and I hung out with my sister in law, Michelle and my nephew, Ethan. I have decided to have a "retreat" of sorts later this month with my sisters. They will all be coming up to my house for an overnighter. All the details are still in the works, but it should be pretty fun. Michelle is very talented in arts and crafts and she wanted to do something "special" for all of the sisters, so we went shopping for the goods, which cannot be disclosed at this time because it is supposed to be a surprise. We got to work on them yesterday evening and it was a little more time consuming than she thought, so Michelle and Ethan came home with Kate and I and we stayed up late watching "The Importance of Being Earnest" (great show, by the way), and crafting our little hearts out. I can't wait to post pictures of what we were making because they are really cute, but that will have to wait a few weeks when they are all completed and handed out.

For dinner we had a simple meal. I BBQ'd some chicken with a special sauce I sort of threw together, but is really good. Key ingredient being apricot preserves or if you're out of that like I was last night, substitute it with nectarine jam. I had some homemade jam that my Dad's wife, Brandi made so I used that. It's really good, if you like that sort of thing. We also made a yummy salad to go with it. I went out to the garden and picked some of our home grown Romaine lettuce and it was really good. Tonight we had another salad, and while I think it is really cool to eat food from your own garden, I get really disgusted when I am cleaning the sink and find a slug just over an inch long clinging to the side. I was so grossed out! I am very girly, in that I HATE bugs! I guess it's a small price to pay for having fresh, homegrown produce.

Wow Deanne, I LOVE your new family picture! And the one of just you and your husband is just so nice! Everytime James and I try to get a picture together it ends up looking like a high school dance photo! Yours has a beautiful grown up romantic feel!
I'm super jealous of your garden and your fun girl time! The slug though, not so much! ;)

Yummy! That would make me not want to eat the salad. But that's just me. I too hate the whole bug thing. Makes my skin crawl. In fact, last night I killed a spider with my bare hands because it was on me and instinct kicked in. Ewwww! I am so excited for the retreat. I am even going to be having a sub for my Saturday class so I don't have to rush out on Saturday.

Although, if Nattie is home, I just might head out early anyway...we'll see. Pray, Pray, Pray!
