shopping woes

I sometimes dread shopping trips by myself. And I need to rant a little. First of all, they really should have special parking spots for moms with children. Infants in car seats to be exact. I love having to lug my ever growing baby in that car seat while trying to make sure my toddler doesn't get run over in the meantime. Then. It's the joy of dodging carts while inside of WinCo. Aren't there supposed to be shopping etiquette rules or something? Do I have to say "EXCUSE ME!" at the top of my lungs for you to figure out that I would like to get by. It's like people are so engrossed in their own shopping to notice anyone else. So before we left the house Katelyn pottied. I figure, great! we're only making a couple stops, we should be good to go. Nope. So I have to cart dodge all the way across the store because we are in the complete opposite corner of the store than the bathroom. Trying to hurry so we don't have an accident. Try to get baby and car seat off the dang cart and it gets caught up on that little hooky thing. Get in and out of nasty bathroom as fast as possible. We manage to get all the things I was looking for and make it up to the register. Unbelievably, we find a pretty short line (for WinCo) and I start breathing a bit easier. For some reason I decide to pull out the shopping list that was in my pocket the ENTIRE time we were there and realize I forgot half of the blasted things on the list. All of my stuff is already on the belt and there is no way I am going back for another round. I am lucky to make it across the parking lot in one piece. I always park next to the cart coral because it's just easier when you are all done. But as I am trying to get Katelyn out of the cart and into her seat the dang cart starts rolling, with Alaina still in it. So I pretty much threw Kate into her seat to save the cart. Good grief! Is this over yet? And don't you hate it when you are all alone and trying to get your kids and all of your grocery bags into the car and someone is waiting for your spot or next to you and they act totally impatient that you are in their way? Finally we are all safe and sound in the car and I decide to medicate myself with some chocolate covered gummy bears. That'll be great for my cholesterol and non gall bladder. Oh well, I only had 2 or 3...handfuls! HAHAHAHAHA! This is why I sometimes just choose to stay home, rather than do the things I need to do. Does anyone else ever have these lovely experiences?

This is how Katelyn went to the store. Some people would not let their kids go out looking like this unless it was Halloween. I say, who cares? You only get to be 3 years old once. And yes, the horse came too.

I so feel your pain. And why do the shopping carts always roll away at Winco? that's happened to me so many times. Now I plan on that, and it's one more thing to think about while at least two kids are crying, and you are trying to get everyone in and buckled and the groceries put away, and you realize you forgot milk, the only reason you left the house with all the kids in the first place. AAHHH!

Next time you get home, call me and we'll cry about it together. ;)

I absolutely refuse to take my kids on the big grocery trips! But the funny thing is last Saturday I bought myself chocolate covered cinnamon bears there too and I started out with 5 then I think by the time I got home I had over 20. Oops!

Oh my gosh that sounds horrible. HORRIBLE! The parking spot thing is so true!! Try to get some down time and you'll feel a lot better.

To go to WinCo between the hours of 4 and 7 is to risk your life. It's crazy. I never go to the store with the kids unless Daniel comes too. I prefer to go by myself really, but sometimes take Ava now that she's not such a nightmare at the store.

haha! funny... i hate that crap too. last sprng i was at winco and some moron let his cart fly into my car and drove away leaving a HUGE basketball sized dent. thankfully the guy next to me saw it all and managed to get the idiots business number that was plastered on the side of his truck.

ps...i love when kids dress themselves the best. ;)

I can totally relate! I do most of the big shopping trips with the boys in the morning because by the time Jeff gets home from work and we eat, the boys are way to cranky to go. Oh and the cart has rolled away from me at WinCo too! With Cooper still in it. Now I know which row slopes down and I avoid it at all costs!

Thank you for capturing the "shopping woes" so perfectly.

I lucked out and Corey happened to be in PA when we went shopping the other day. He signed out of service and changed and went to Costco & Safeway with us.

I was SO GLAD he came with us, to see what shopping is REALLY like. (Whiny kids, too many places to go/things to get, and a lost shoe.)

If there were awards for moms shopping with young kids (esp. with a carseat) I would would give one to YOU!

Brinley still dresses like that. I figure if she can dress herself, she can wear whatever she likes, as long as I pick out what she wears to school.
I HATE shopping at WinCo by myself. I always end up spending way too long there and Sarah has had it by the time I get to the check out, so not only do I have to deal with her trying to jump out of the cart, I have to worry about bagging my groceries fast enough before the cashier starts pressing the button and smashes my bread/tomatoes/banana's with all the canned goods.
HATE shopping there, but the prices are so good.
