dang genetics

So Alaina's front teeth are coming in. I was able to get a better look at them today and was somewhat disappointed to find that it looks like she inherited the dreaded diastema. I am almost 100% positive that she has one. What is a diastema, you may ask? Well, for me it was a source of insecurity and embarrassment. I hated mine. Some people may refer to it as a giant, gaping hole in between your two front teeth. "Big enough to drive a truck through" kind of gap. I had it and I HATED it! Perhaps (for your viewing pleasure/amusement) I can find a picture...

Ah, yes...here we go...Go ahead and laugh. I do.

Now this is a slight exaggeration because I had just had upper jaw surgery to expand my palate, so the gap was opened even more. You get the idea though.

Thankfully, after braces, jaw surgery and some lovely porcelain veneers, I am no longer insecure about my smile. I guess we better start saving now for Alaina :)

I love it! I had one too! 2 surgeries and 2 sets of braces later and I'm good!

Ahh yes, genetics. Scott was born missing his upper laterals, and now has them on a flipper (retainer). So far, Easton and Luke have shown their adult laterals through x-rays, but we don't know for Max yet.

I must have not known you during this time. I always thought you had a nice smile. That looks like it sucked.
I had HORRIBLE teeth and at 3 years old I had molars pulled, teeth capped and spacers put in. Brinley was lucky, her teeth are text book perfect, I'm not so sure about Sarah.
How are you guys? I've been horrible at commenting lately.

Yay!!! The return of the spongebob teeth!! I remember taking this picture after cranking that thing in your mouth. What a roommate. . . Those were the good old days. Anyhow, remember, babies are supposed to have diastemas around their baby teeth so when the permanent ones grow in they won't be crowded. There's hope yet for little Alaina!
