Independance Day

God, Bless America!

This year Justin had to work all day, so it was just me and the girls. We hung out all day today...well, I guess we do that every day, but still. We enjoyed swim lessons, playing in the yard, and a trip to WinCo (where some dude was wearing American flag shorts. Pretty patriotic, if you ask me).

I didn't know what we were going to do to celebrate. Justin didn't want to watch the fireworks since he has to get up at 4:30am and I didn't really want to keep the kids up that late, so we just spent time together at home. No parties, no friends. It was actually just right. I decided to make a special effort to have our own BBQ. I made turkey burgers from scratch, we had pasta salad, and Katelyn has been asking for these Pillsbury flag cookies for weeks, so I let her get some and we had those for a treat. I also made red/white/blue jello (red jello, blueberries and cool whip!) although it hadn't set up in time to eat it last night.

We ate on the back deck and then played in the yard some more. Sometimes it's just so nice to be together as a family and have simple fun. Afterward, we had FHE and the kids were in bed by 9. Mom was in bed by 9:30! Guess I was a little sleepy.

I have to add that I really love this country. I know our leaders aren't perfect and there is a lot of bad in the world, but this truly is a blessed land. I am proud to be American. I am so thankful I live here. I have so much!! I just pray that this country will continue to be a promised land for all who live here.

I was totally bummed about not being able to come down to see you guys! It's probably for the best though. Me and the kids are all sick. Maybe next year!!

What?! Actually relaxing on a holiday! I've almost forgotten that's the point of these days. We kept it simple too, a picnic at the park for lunch and bbq at home. Corey and I could see a few of the fireworks from the front porch, but I agree, it isn't worth it while our kids are so young.
Have the same hope as you for our country-
