cold running

Last January when I decided to start running again, I kinda felt like this picture.

Or a little like this picture.

This year I can say I feel quite different than either of those pictures. I am happy to report that I ran 4 times last week. I am still pretty slow and trying to get my legs and lungs stronger, but I am ok with that. I am working on building up stamina and endurance right now. I've been doing a run/walk type thing I found online at runnersworld.com. Right now I am just running for 30 minutes. Saturday I ran 11 minutes/walked 1; ran 11/walked 1; ran 8 min. Tomorrow I will do 12 min/walk 1; 12/1; run 4min. You just progressively increase your length of running time. On my 2 non-run days, I will do aerobics and strength training.

It feels great! Twice last week I ran with a friend, (a friend who is definitely a stronger runner than I am) and that really helped me push through when I wanted to stop and walk sooner. I still have a hard time telling if it's my lungs/heart or my legs that are more tired. Saturday it was about 16 degrees out when we ran. I talked her into just doing it outside even though she didn't recommend it. It was definitely and little rough on the lungs, but I don't have a treadmill and I would rather run outside anyway.

I wish I was stronger, but I have to remind myself that I am just starting and to be patient. I'll get there!

Good luck DeAnne. I am going to try to start running again too. But since there is snow/ice all over the roads I think I am going to use Jeff's parents treadmill until the road conditions improve.

You are doing great! If you join HP we can strength train together and run next to eachother on the treadmill! DON'T GET SICK!!! It will undo everything you are working towards!
