Baby Elephants

Okay, no one else may really think this is very interesting, and Justin will just make fun of me for putting this on here, but that's ok. Last night I was watching Animal Planet (my new favorite channel) and a show came on called "Elephant Diaries". Anyone else watch it? It was the most amazing thing. It is a program about rescued baby orphan elephants. Most of their families were killed by poachers, so they are really sad a confused when they come to the "orphanage". Here they are nursed back to health by the caretakers and given a new family (the other rescued ellies). I learned there is a Matriarch in the group of elephants and that these animals are so gentle and compassionate with each other. It was especially endearing to watch the very young elephants in their stables at night, who would suckle a blankie hanging from some rope. It made me think of Katelyn because she has this odd habit of suckling her fleece blankies when she is tired or needs comfort. There was even one small "ellie" who really took to her bunk neighbor and was always seen by the side of this other elephant and was suckling her ear. I am just really amazed at these animals and I thought it was really interesting to learn more about them. They are so sweet!
